DyCut App-Dynamic Cutting Layouts

May 17, 2018

Have you heard of the DyCut App?  This app is great when you’re trying to maximize the number of cuts you can get out of a piece of cardstock. With this app, DyCut calculates  layouts to maximize your materials. Getting the most out of your cardstock helps you save money, improve output, and reduce waste.

I believe this app is only available for iOS devices, so if you have an Android device this app will not be available to you.

How To Calculate:
1. Enter the dimensions of the sheet you will be cutting.
2. Enter the size you want cut.
3. View layout options.
4. Pick your favorite.

If you have an iOS device, check it out!  It’s saved me some paper a few times!  Happy stamping!

Rubber or Photopolymer Stamps?

May 15, 2018

Hello stamping friends!  I get lots of questions about the types of stamps that Stampin’ Up! has to offer. Which should I use–the rubber, clear mount or photopolymer? When do I use the Stamping Pierce Mat? Why do I need the mat?  Well, a lot of what you pick is by personal preference, but  today I am going to explain the differences in all the kinds of stamps that  Stampin’ Up! has to offer and you can decide for yourself.

All of the stamps are manufactured by Stampin’ Up! and packaged in a plastic case with the name of the set and the images on the spine for quick reference.

First up is the Classic Rubber stamp.  They are made of high-quality red rubber and are ideal for detailed images and are mounted in two different options. There is the wood-mount that comes with the maple wood blocks for permanent mounting and the clear-mount which mount separately on clear blocks for stamping.  The clear blocks come in many different sizes and they are sold separately.

Next is the Photopolymer stamp. These transparent stamps are ideal for precision placement and are also mounted on the clear blocks. When using these stamps it is best to use the Stamping Pierce Mat as a base.  The mat provides a cushion underneath your stamp which helps to get a cleaner stamped image.  These stamps are great for two-step stamping, repeat patterns, and accurate alignment.  You can also have fun with them and position a bunch on a clear block for a fun pattern.

Hope this answers any questions that you may have had about the kinds of stamps that Stampin’ Up! has to offer. If you’d like to see more, or place an order, please click here.

Happy stamping!

Picture Perfect Birthday Card

April 26, 2018

This is such a fun card using one of my all time favorite stamp sets — the Picture Perfect Birthday Card stamp set!  I’m so glad that this is carrying over in the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog.  Hope you enjoy this fun brightly colored double Z fold birthday card!

Stamp Set:
Picture Perfect Birthday (clear 145519)

Ink:
Memento Tuxedo Black (132708)
Lemon Lime Twist (144086)
Daffodil Delight (126944)
Peekaboo Peach (141398)
Bermuda Bay (131171)
Berry Burst (144083)

Paper (including cutting dimensions):
Bermuda Bay Cardstock (131197) cut at 4-1/4” x 11” and scored at 2-3/4” and 5-1/2”
Basic Black Cardstock (121045) cut at 3-1/4” x 10” and scored at 2-3/4” and 5-1/2”;
2 1/8” square (1)
Whisper White Cardstock (100730) 2-1/4” square; 2-1/2” x 3” (2); 3” x 4-1/4”
and scraps.
Picture Perfect Party DSP – 3″ x 2-1/4″

Accessories:
SNAIL Adhesive (104332)
Stampin’ Trimmer (126889)
Bone Folder (102300)
Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430)
Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (144108)
Paper Snips (103579)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Using the Whisper White Cardstock scraps, stamp one bow in Bermuda Bay (stamped off) with Lemon Lime Twist (full strength) as the accent and one bow in Berry Burst (stamped off) and Berry Burst (full strength) as the accent. Fussy cut out the bows.
  2.  Next using the 2-1/4” square of Whisper White Cardstock, stamp three candles in Bermuda Bay, Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst (full strength). Add the flame in Daffodil Delight. Next stamp “cue the confetti” in Memento Tuxedo Black. Adhere this piece of Cardstock to the Basic Black 2-1/8” square.
  3. Attach your desired piece of Picture Perfect Party DSP to the Whisper White Cardstock that measures 3 x 4-1/4”. This piece will then be attached to the longest piece (measuring 4-1/2” x 3-1/4”) of the scored Basic Black. Once you have that attached, adhere the “cue the confetti” piece.
  4. On the Whisper White Cardstock measuring 2-1/2” x 3”, stamp the base of the horn blower in Bermuda Bay (stamped off) and then add the polka dots in Bermuda Bay (full strength). Next add the fringes in Peekaboo Peach and the rolled up piece of the horn blower in Lemon Lime Twist. Also add some confetti for fun! This piece gets attached to the middle section on the Basic Black folded piece.
  5. On the last piece of Whisper White Cardstock measuring 2-1/2” x 3” stamp “happiest of birthdays to you” in Memento Black, a bow in Bermuda Bay (stamped off) with the accents in full strength. Add some more confetti! This piece then gets attached to the lower piece of the Memento Black Cardstock.
  6. You will now attach the Basic Black piece to the Bermuda Bay piece. As you will see in the picture, the bottom piece of the Basic Black piece is fully glued down with SNAIL adhesive. The top piece only has SNAIL adhesive on the top “half”. Be sure to score all of your pieces with a bone folder before attaching. This will make your folds work well.

Stampin’ Pad Case Update

April 12, 2018

Hello stamping friends!  I have lots of great information below for you explaining why Stampin’ Up! made changes to the ink pad case.  As always, message me if you have any questions!

Why is the case being changed?
The case’s manufacturing mold was about to expire. SU can only use a mold a limited number of times before it needs to be replaced, so they decided to improve the case, at the same time of the color revamp,  rather than order more of the same molds.  This makes the changes in the most cost efficient manner for everyone.

What’s better about the case?
It’s less confusing to open. Opening the new ink pad is now more simple and intuitive. Just insert your thumb in the “lip” at the front of the case and lift it to open.

It will have a tighter fit between the lid and the base. With the new design, the lid doesn’t accidentally become disconnected which was a common problem with the old case style. With use, the lid will be easier to slide open and close.

They will be stackable! The ability to stack the cases makes them easier to store and transport. We designed a “nub” in each bottom corner that fits nicely into the “dimple” on the top of another case.

It will include improved labels and stickers.  Such as:
The front label will be a cleaner, bolder design and larger color swatch, making it easier to see the ink’s color.

The case has a new color icon.

The case will continue to have color stickers that you can place on the end of each case to easily identify the ink’s color at a glance.

The case will also include a new color sticker that you can place on the inside of the pad, so you can easily distinguish the ink’s color when the case is open.

Is the ink different?

Yes!  There has been a defoamer added to the ink ingredients because some of the old ink would sometimes bubble.  This was especially true of the newer pads and with lighter colors.  The added defoamer will:  reduce ink bubbles, help you get an even coating of ink on the stamp, and help the stamped image have a smoother, solid look.

Another change is that the Archival Ink will no longer be a part of the ink offerings.  Basic Gray will now be offered in Classic Ink.  Your best options for black ink will be the Tuxedo Black Memento Pad and the Jet Black StazOn Pad.

Will there be a price change?
Yes, there will be a price increase. The pricing for an ink pad was $6.50 and has been increased to $7.50.

Will the updated stamp pad case fit in the Color Caddy?
Yes, it will still fit in the Color Caddy, just not as tightly.  If you store the new ink pads in your caddy, you’ll want to be careful when rotating the caddy and not turn it too fast! You may have flying ink pads! Stampin’ Up! is also working on new storage solutions.

Check back here for periodic updates on the new ink pads.  I will be sure to share any new information as we get it from Stampin’ Up! as the new ink pads are rolled out.

As always, message me if you have any questions.

Happy stamping!

Good morning stamping friends!  Today I am sharing with you the card that I made with my library ladies this week.  I thought it was a good time to make a Mother’s Day card.  It is only one month away!  This card is great for your own mother, a sister, aunt, or even a friend of yours that is a mother.  Sometimes we forget about all of the other women in our lives and focus on giving a Mother’s Day card just to our moms. April News

April 4, 2018April 2, 2018

April is upon us and hopefully spring is around the corner.  It snowed here yesterday in the northeast!  Yes, it snowed!  Like I said, hopefully spring is coming very very soon! Today I am sharing my April News with you all.  Enjoy!!

This coming weekend, I will be attending Stampin’ Up!’s spring convention in Hartford, CT where I will get a sneak peek at the new 2018-2019 Annual Catalog! When I get back, and after they tell us we can share what we learned, I will be able to share it all with you!

While at the convention we will get to see the new In-Colors for 2018-2020. However, this means we are losing the 2016-2018 In-Colors (Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum). If any of these colors are your favorites, consider stocking up on the card stock and especially the re-inkers for the ink pads. Once we get close to them retiring (which is the end of May), the card stock, ink pads, and re-inkers will go quickly. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND ordering them sooner rather than later if you need anything.

BIRTHDAY CLUB!
Are you on my birthday list? If not, you should be! I will send you a birthday card, with a special surprise! Send an email to me at wendymakes@gmail.com with your birth date and month to get on the list!

WATERFRONT CLASS!
I am offering a product based class featuring the Waterfront Stamp Set (on page 48 of the Occasions Catalog) Saturday, April 21st. This class will be product based, which means you will purchase the Waterfront stamp set, and we will get together (or if you’re not from this area, I will send you pdf instruction sheets) to make four projects that I have created with this set. The cost of class will be $27. This includes the stamp set, plus the supplies for the four projects that we will create.  If you are out of the area, I will be happy to mail your package to you via priority mail for an additional $8.  DEADLINE to register is April 14th.
